I only used the magnetic primer on two parts of the wall that were open and that my daughter could reach. I'd say two sections approx 3x4".

Thanks for your review! Did you paint the entire wall with the magnetic paint? Or just in the areas that you would use the magnets?

Laura and Angela,
Here are links/prices where you can buy Rust-Oleum Magnetic Primer 30 oz:
Lowes ($18.88): http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=115535-90-223081&lpage=none
Amazon ($21.99): http://www.amazon.com/Rustoleum-223081-Rust-Oleum-Magnetic-Primer/dp/B000PU1D3I

My walls were very bumpy/textured to start with, but the primer itself didn't seem bumpy to me. I think I applied about 4 coats of this. My husband was convinced I ruined the wall as it was so black, as the first few coats did not hold a magnetic letter. But the next few coats I thoroughly mixed and was very black with magnetic sludge. That held the weak magnetic items, and then 2 coats of orange paint covered the black quite well that unless you look very hard, you can't see the black magnetic primer underneath.

I tested holding a normal sheet of paper, and it took 2-3 lightweight magnets to stick. I think with anything stronger, it would take just 1-2.

Amazon has many reviews on this, so be sure to read other people's experiences before you try! Ours turned out positive, but it looks like many others did not. My advice if you do this, is to get it professional mixed very well before you apply (I did not, and just hand-mixed a little bit). Make sure that thick, black magnetic sludge is thoroughly mixed! Be prepared to do more than 3 coats, and be prepared for how BLACK it will be.

What is your experience with the magnetic paint? I have been reading reviews on various magnetic paints and read that it can be bumpy so hard to pain a smooth surface. And also that it isn't strong enough to hold any paper on the wall with a magnet, unless you get super strong magnets.

Also, how much was a gallon of the type you used?

You are giving me so much inspiration for a room for our house!

I got it at Lowes, but I see this paint at Home Depot as well. It makes for a fun wall! :)
