Maybe that is why AAS didn't introduce the "g" words in this lesson, there are too many words that break that rule...

:-) Thanks Angela! My husband and I were going through all the 'g' words we could think of today to see if we could figure out the rule... but them we came up with words like "get" and "give" that broke the rules... Argh! :-)

Maria, I just checked the AAS Level outlines, and not until Level 2, Lesson 20 do they cover the hard and soft G. I know in our phonics program (Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading) we learned them together with a similar rule - soft "g" sound when followed by an "e" or "i".

This is great! Thanks for the lesson! I learned something new... I wonder if it's the same with hard and soft G?

I may have to get this spelling curriculum for my daughter. She's just getting into reading and it would be nice to have some of those rules to go over when she gets stuck on what sound a letter should make.

Thanks for your great posts!

That's great! We just did that lesson last week. :) My daughter didn't want to bother with the blank tile either!

Nice to see you blogging again. :)
