I know in our phonics program (Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading) we learned them together with a similar rule - soft "g" sound when followed by an "e" or "i". Thanks for the lesson! I learned something new... I wonder if it's the same with hard and soft G? I may have to get this spelling curriculum for my daughter.
