If I had pursued portrait photography professionally, as were my plans last year, I would definitely keep the prime 1.4s. But times are tougher this year so I must sell the things I am not using. In 2010 things should be a bit easier, so maybe I can re-purchase their 1.8 versions. I think all I'd need to do is spend a few weeks solely using these prime lenses to get used to them. :)

I wouldn't have been able to sacrifice that lens -- but then, I'm all about the prime lenses. My main lens is actually a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens, which I shoot on an SLR with an APS-C size sensor; I used to shoot primarily with a 100mm prime lens in my film days. Zoom lenses drive me crazy, though my husband loves them.

I lust after a 1.4! However I must be satisfied with a 1.8.
I'm discovering using it that the zoomy lens makes me lazy, but the 50mm is often too zoomed, especially given the crop of a cheaper SLR.
