I love the photograph! It's almost surreal! I used to be an amateur photographer as well, back in the days of 35mm slides! LOL! Now I mostly just take snapshots of family activities, but every once in a while I get the photo "bug" again! Looking for a new camera to take to Yellowstone in October!

Mikaela was bored with the first few books so we skipped a few once she recognized all the lowercase letters. I have family in Estes Park, CO and visit at least once a quarter to help with their family business. We are actually here now and just returned from the YMCA which has great free programs for members. She's going to 1 hr classes there each morning we will be in town.

Hi Amy!
How cool that we have a very similar curriculum! Wish you guys lived near us.

I do indeed have ETC, I got the first workbooks (Get Set for the Code) which were too easy for Satori, but looking again, it looks like we'd need book 3. It's been many months since I first showed her an ETC book, I will pull Book 1 out this week and see how she likes it! She picks up new sounds easily, but has to work on fluency more. Thanks for the tip. :)

Thanks for the idea about the math u see container. I saw it on the math-u-see blog. It seems we have a lot in common. I have a 4 1/2 year old and we are using almost the exact same curriculum for everthing. Just purchased story of the world, we're using Singapore 1st grade along with math u see (we already finished Horizon K math which I didn't like very much), and we love handwriting without tears. My daughter used to cry when it was time to practice handwriting and it was holding up her phonics lessons because they required writing. We switched to HWWT and now she loves it. If you haven't tried it you might check in to Explode the Code for phonics. The books are inexpensive and easy to use. We've been using it for over a year and my daughter went from reading a few words to reading on a 3rd or 4th grade level after spending about 10-15 minutes a day on the lessons.

Hi Angie -

Wow - this is pretty impressive stuff. Wish I had the energy to be doing these things with Jaron and Noah...maybe this will help inspire me.
