This list only includes chapter books and novels over 50 pages. Of course we also read several other books, such as picture books, five in a row books, story of the world books and so on, that will not make this list. These are the ones I simply read-aloud for pure enjoyment over several days or weeks.
- I see I have slacked off on updating this list. I will try to maintain it better. (July 2011)

- When We Were Very Young & Now We Are Six by A.A. Milne, audiobook version. Started 2/17.
- Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll – audiobook. Finished February 17.
- Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson – unabridged version , we are actually reading the Kindle edition. (family read-aloud with Dad. I thought this would be tough for her to listen to at age 5, but she actually enjoys it. (I had more trouble reading it, so we did switch to an audiobook version halfway through.) Finished February.
- Boy of the Painted Cave by Justen Denzel – 160 pp. Reading the Kindle edition. Finished February.
- James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl – 160 pp. (she pleads with me every night to keep reading!) Finished 1/19/10.

- The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes

Read-Aloud Book list for 2009 (started July)
- Elmer and the Dragon, by Ruth Stiles Gannet – 96 pp. (12/16- ?) #2 out of 3 in this series, they are very quick reads, might as well finish them all.
- My Father’s Dragon, by Ruth Stiles Gannet – 68 pp. (12/11- 12/15 ) second start on this one, it’s going much better now, she loves the part about the lion and his ribbons!
- Poppy by Avi – 176 pp. (September through December 2009) Got off to a slow start, now the whole family wants to hear about Poppy’s adventures! We’ll be getting the rest of this series for sure. Satori even read the other book titles out loud to me and surprised me, that’s how much she enjoyed Poppy.
- Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder
- Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus by Barbara Park – 80 pp. Satori got a kick out of this, but ugh, what a bad influence Junie B. Jones could be!
- Crispin: At the Edge of the World by Avi – probably not for the 4-8 age group, but we got this audio CD from the library and fell in LOVE with the narrator’s voice! Definitely going to get more audio books from now on.
- Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard Atwater – 139 pp. (August) Neither Satori nor myself really liked this one, but it’s a classic.
- Wonderland by Tommy Kovac – 160 pp. (August) Wouldn’t recommend this as a must-have read-aloud or necessarily for kids, but it caught my eye at the library (comic book format) and we enoyed it.
- The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling – 128 pp. (August)
- Dinotopia by James Gurney – 160 pp. (July) The illustrations are amazing. Satori is really into dinosaurs, so that’s why we read these.
- Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo – 272 pp. (read in July 2009) First read-aloud was a success, which is surprising, this is a long book!
